TRASTRA Card (2023 Review): Get Your Salary Paid In Crypto

I really hope the TRASTRA card is the beginning of a new era for both consumers and employers. As a fully remote worker running my own agency, I work with international clients and often struggle to find the most convenient way to get paid that is fast, cheap, and secure. I’m tired of foreign transaction fees, delayed wire transfers, and hefty currency exchange rates. But the world is changing for the better, we hope.

The technology behind blockchains and cryptocurrencies is shifting the way we think and operate with our money (and beyond), and now we see the first innovations toward paying salaries and getting paid. TRASTRA offers a unique debit with a free multi-currency account, instant money transfers, and aimed at getting your salary paid in crypto. In this post, we have a look at the TRASTRA crypto debit card in detail.

Advantages of Getting Salaries in Crypto

It’s no news that blockchains, cryptocurrencies, and decentralized technologies will be central pieces of tomorrow’s financial systems. They are already changing most paradigms, including how we save, how we invest, how we access to credit, and also how we get paid.

NOTE

It’s important to note that these benefits come with risks and may not be suitable for everyone. The valuations of most tokens today are highly volatile, which means that the value of your money can go down or up drastically in short periods of time. I’m no financial advisor, and here I share my personal experience with these products (and I also lost money on the way).

Moving salaries to crypto can have several benefits, including:

  • Faster and cheaper global transactions: The technology behind cryptocurrencies can enable quicker and cheaper money transfers, particularly for international transactions compared to traditional banking systems. Even many of the global banks are now migrating to web3 decentralized technologies. Since the pandemic, the world has been doing more remote and international work than ever before. Having low or even zero fees when paying salaries is the way to go.
  • Tax efficiency: Depending on how crypto is taxed in your countries of operation, receiving all or part of your salary in cryptocurrency could be more tax efficient for some workers. Make sure to check with your local authorities and get help from tools like Koinly when declaring your taxes.
  • Financial inclusion: Cryptocurrencies can provide easier access to financial services for those without access to traditional banking systems or those living in countries with unstable currencies. Getting a loan or borrowing money is a few clicks away in most crypto apps like Nexo or Coinbase.
  • Privacy and security: This is a big one. Cryptocurrency transactions offer a higher level of privacy and security compared to your main bank.
  • Potential for appreciation: Some people view cryptocurrencies as an investment, with the potential for their value to increase over time. Receiving your salary in cryptocurrency could allow you to benefit from this potential appreciation.
  • Diversification: Saving your salary in cryptocurrency can help diversify your financial portfolio, just as saving in different currencies.
  • Autonomy and control: With cryptocurrencies, you have full control over your funds without relying on banks or other intermediaries. Today, if the bank goes down, your money goes down. With crypto, you can put your money in a cold wallet without depending in any other financial institution.

TRASRA uses high-grade security standards, including five-layer security with a multi-sig system by BitGo, two-factor authentication (2FA), SSL encryption, verified by Visa, and device authorization.

The company is a regulated financial technology company headquartered in Prague, Czech Republic, which complies with all the local regulatory compliance procedures.

Conclusion

TRASTRA had a great initiative and first stab at tackling a common and massive problem worldwide. Europe was a perfect testbed for the TRASTRA debit card, as millions of foreign workers in every country deal with a range of currencies, prices, and markets every day. TRASTRA offers a solid crypto debit card with a multi-currency account that can be used to pay salary in crypto and cash it out in fiat, easily and quickly.

Some of the features I’d like to see in the near future include lower maintenance fees, cashback or loyalty program, a connection with a DEX to invest and stake your funds, and a welcome offer. It would also be attractive to see their effort behind sustainability both on the front end (e.g., card material and shipping) and the back end (servers, green IT, investments, etc.).
