SAS Opens A New Route To Morocco And Returns To Africa After Decades (2023)

Scandinavian Airlines seems to be going full-thrust with its ramp up plan this winter. SAS opens a new route to Morocco, set to start on November 4th, 2023. After decades, SAS is finally returning to Africa.

The airline will start its operations to Agadir-Al Massira Airport from Copenhagen Airport and Stockholm Arlanda Airport; each route is served once weekly and will continue on a seasonal basis until March 2024. The routes will be operated by their state-of-the-art Airbus A320neo, which can carry up to 180 passengers in two classes: SAS Go and SAS Plus.

You might be wondering, why Agadir? Aren’t there any more popular destinations in Morroco (Marrakesh, Casablanca, or Rabat). SAS highlights Agadir as an appealing warm-weather destination during the Scandinavian winter, offering welcoming beaches and premier golf courses. Remember that an astonishing percentage of Swedes play golf (over 50% of the population!).

Erik Westman, Executive Vice-President, and Chief Commercial Officer at SAS, commented, “We are greatly encouraged to witness the resumption of global travel, and it is our pleasure to announce new destinations for the upcoming winter.”

This announcement of the Moroccan routes comes on the heels of SAS’s recent disclosure of plans to reinstate service to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport from Copenhagen, commencing on October 30th, a route that has not been active for nearly a decade.
