SAS First Electric Flight For 2028 Sold Out In Minutes
Have you gotten a ticket for SAS first electric flight? The airline recently announced that you could get a ticket starting on June 2nd for their first fully-electric flight, although the planes are not yet fully built. The price was low (1946kr), but there’s a catch: you don’t know the exact date, departing airport, or route.
I guess it’s fine that most details were still to confirm, as the flight was scheduled for 2028, but the tickets sold out in minutes. Were you lucky enough to get one? If so, please share your experience!
I’m excited to start seeing fully-electric planes and flights starting to operate.
SAS First Electric Flight In 2028
What We Know
Scandinavian airline SAS is taking bookings for its first-ever commercial electric flight, which is scheduled to take off in 2028. The flight will be operated by the ES-30, a 30-seat electric aircraft developed by Heart Aerospace, a Swedish company.
SAS is an aviation industry pioneer and is committed to reducing its environmental impact. The airline has set a goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050, and introducing electric aircraft is a key part of this plan. We have seen some initiatives before like the Biofuel tickets.
The electric aircraft that SAS will be using is the ES-30, which is still under development. However, Heart Aerospace has already completed several test flights, and the company is confident that the aircraft will be ready for commercial service in 2028.
The ES-30 is a small aircraft that can fly up to 200km on a single charge, ideal for short-haul flights, such as those between Stockholm and Copenhagen. The 200km version is fully-electric, and then they have 400km and 800km hybrid versions with a fuel system as a reserve.
SAS is not the only airline that is interested in electric aircraft. Several other airlines, including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines, plan to introduce electric aircraft in the coming years.

Introducing electric aircraft is a major step forward for the aviation industry. Electric aircraft are more environmentally friendly than traditional aircraft, and they are also quieter. Overall, it means a positive impact on the environment and communities they serve.
Official Announcement
RESERVE YOUR SEAT ON SASโ FIRST ELECTRIC FLIGHT 2028
On 2 June at 12:00 CET. SAS opens seat reservations for its first-ever commercial electric flight in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. SAS invites travelers to join in writing this next chapter in aviation history with 30 seats available for reservation on each of the three inaugural flights โ which are expected to take place during the course of 2028.โฏ
SAS’ goal is net-zero emissions by 2050. An important part of achieving this goal is to develop and use technological innovations such as electric aircraft on shorter trips.
“Since its inception in 1946, SAS has been one of the pioneers in the airline industry, being for instance the first commercial airline operator to fly over the North Pole to significantly shorten flight time between continents. A groundbreaking activity for which SAS received the Columbus Prize. The fact that we can now invite our passengers to the next major milestone in the future of aviation is a natural continuation of that pioneering spirit and a significant step on our journey towards more sustainable aviation,” says Anko van der Werff, President & CEO of SAS.โฏ
The ticket price for the inaugural flight will be SEK/NOK/DKK 1946 โ a tribute to the year when SAS first started flying. A start-up that also marks the beginning of SASโ innovative nature, with then-founder Wallenberg stating that โmoving from the old to the new is the only tradition worth preservingโ.โฏ
