Resurs Bank credit cards are more competitive and will help you save money in the current high-inflation context (if used the right way).

Compared to other niche banks (Marginalen, Santander, Bank Norwegian), the credit cards from Resurs Bank allow you to split payments into 6 interest-free installments, pay for invoices, and get a free savings account at 1.3% interest rate.

Why I’m using Resurs Bank

The short version of the story is that Resurs Bank is one of the banks I use to beat inflation:

  1. I split payments into 6 interest-free installments (buy now, pay later)
  2. I put some of my savings into a free savings account that comes with the card, which gives you 1.3% interest

Now the long story ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m from Argentina where inflation skyrockets (90% and more per year). In Sweden, there was roughly 10% inflation in 2022. In this context the best you can do to make your money work best is a trick called buy now, pay later.

Why? Because your money will be worth less later. So 100kr today is more powerful than 100kr in 1 year.

If you buy a 15.000kr item in January, with 10% inflation, the same item will cost 15.750kr in July. Therefore, if you can buy it in January and split the payment into 6 installments with no interest, you will end up saving money.

With the Resurs Gold Mastercard, you can buy an item today and split it into 6 payments that are interest-free. You only need to pay the “administration fee”, which is the fee for issuing the “faktura”.

In the example above, you buy a 15.000 kr with Resurs Gold, and split it into 6 installments of 2555 kr. That’s a total of 15351 kr! Compared to the 15.750, you end up saving 419 kr at least. The administration fee is aggregated per month: if you split several things, you only pay one fee per month, saving even more.

On top of splitting the payment, you also get points for your purchases. A 15.000kr is 7500 points (75kr). In total, you’ve saved 494 kr on a single 15.000kr purchase.

Why Should You Get a credit card?

If you donโ€™t have a credit card yet, check out this post on why you should get a credit card.

Wrap up

Here’s an example comparison of the part-payments paying with each of the 3 different Resurs bank cards. All examples are calculated based on purchases made on the first day of the month.

  • Classic: Credit 10.000 SEK, interest-free installments for 6 months, 6 installments of SEK 1,667. Admin fee per month SEK 39 + SEK 97 setup fee (one time). Total amount SEK 10,331.
  • Gold: Credit 15.000 SEK, interest-free installments for 6 months, 6 installments of SEK 2,500. Admin fee per month SEK 39 + SEK 97 setup fee (one time). Total amount SEK 15,331
  • World: Credit 15.000 SEK, interest-free installments for 6 months, 6 installments of SEK 2,500. Admin fee per month SEK 39 + SEK 97 setup fee (one time). Total amount SEK 15,331.

As you can see, all the cards work the same way, so if your intention is to get them to split payments, there’s no difference between Resurs Classic, Resurs Gold, and Resurs World. On the other hand, Resurs Gold and Resurs World come with extra benefits if you are planning on using the cards for everyday spending or traveling.
